Risks and Considerations
As with any surgical procedure, it’s important to understand what’s involved before deciding if All On X is right for you:
- All On X is a surgical procedure involving multiple implants placed in a single session, and carries the general risks of any oral surgery, including bleeding, swelling, bruising, and post-operative discomfort — usually more significant than for a single implant, given the scope of treatment.
- There’s a small risk of infection, or of one or more implants failing to fuse properly with the jawbone, which may require additional treatment.
- For Upper Arch treatment near the sinus, or lower-arch treatment near major nerves, there’s a small risk of sinus complications or temporary/rare permanent numbness in the lip, chin, or tongue. Your CT scan is used to plan around these structures and minimise this risk.
- In most cases, your temporary prosthesis is fitted the day after surgery (24 hours post-op), not on the day itself. A soft-food diet is required during initial healing. The final, permanent prosthesis is fitted only once healing is complete, typically several months later.
- Certain factors can affect success, including smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, and existing bone density, these are assessed during your consultation, and a bone graft may be required in some cases before proceeding.
- As with any Dental Implant treatment, ongoing maintenance and regular clinical review are needed to reduce the risk of complications such as peri-implantitis (gum disease around an implant) this is also a condition of your prosthesis warranty.
- If you choose treatment under general anaesthesia, this carries its own separate risks, which will be explained to you during your assessment.
