Titanium and Zirconia Implants

There are different types of dental implants that can be used depending on what you need. It is appropriate to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or all teeth.

The typical material that dental implants are made from is titanium, which is strong and long-lasting. If you’re looking for a nonmetal alternative, we offer that too. This alternative is called zirconia and is also durable and can hold the restoration you need. Your implant will look completely natural and blend in with any remaining teeth you have.

Bone Graft

Dental Implants are one of the most effective ways to reduce the chance of bone loss but also help to combat the issue. They prevent any further issues from developing and aid in the restructuring of the mouth, after the loss of a tooth.

Dental Implants help to stimulate the bone to restore bone production. They act like a tooth and the bone treats them like a tooth is there. The bone will slowly grow up around the implant, restoring any type of bone loss that may have taken place from a lost tooth.

There is a chance that if the area of the implant has been without a tooth for a while, a bone graft may be required.

When are dental implants used?

A dental implant is used when you have lost your tooth or the tooth is no longer viable within your mouth. The dental implant is designed to act as an exact replica to your natural tooth. They are made with materials that are in harmony with the human body’s biology.

With a screw like anchor to act like your natural roots within the jaw bone, it enables you to smile, chew and bite down as if it was your own tooth.

What is a bone graft?

A bone graft works by adding bone to your existing jawbone. This enables it to hold the implant securely in place. Your dentist will decide if this process is needed before your implants by looking at the CBCT scan and your OPG. The bone grafting will only be required if the dentist can see a lot of bone loss in the area where the implant will take place.

As you can see it is crucial that when a tooth or several teeth are lost, we create a solution straight away. If you act sooner rather than later, you protect your bone and facial shape.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

There are a few contraindications to dental implants. For example, your jawbone needs to have enough material in it to hold the implant. The bone of your jaw can dissipate over time, so we will need to check your oral health carefully to make sure you’re a candidate. If you require a bone grafting, we can complete that and then fit you for your implant.

How do you maintain the health of dental implants?

You can’t simply get dental implants and then never maintain your oral health again. Though they’re not real teeth, the gums around them must be carefully cared for. You’ll receive full care instructions from us about how to keep your implants in good shape.

What if I don’t have time to come in for dental appointments?

We get it—life in our world can be busy, often even hectic and stressful. It can seem nearly impossible to get in for the appointments you need. We will structure your appointments around your schedule to make sure that they don’t cut into your workday. We have evening appointments available on Mondays to make sure you can come in when your day is done.

Are there alternatives to getting a dental implant?

Yes. There are several options for teeth replacement available on the market today. These include dentures in full or partial form and dental bridges, all of which are available at our clinic. A denture can replace several teeth or all teeth. A bridge is designed to replace multiple teeth at once. The one that’s best for you will depend on your situation and preferences.

How will I know which tooth replacement option is best for me?

We will go over each option with you so that you can decide how you would like to proceed. Your dentist will give you their recommendations based on your individual needs. Then, you’ll be able to choose what you want to do for future treatment.

How long will dental implants last?

With good care, dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution. Some of the earliest patients to receive implants — over 35 years ago — still have them today, and there’s a strong body of research supporting
their durability.

Risks and Considerations

As with any surgical procedure, it’s important to understand what’s involved before deciding if Dental Implants are right for you:

Placing an implant is a surgical procedure, and carries the general risks of any minor oral surgery, including bleeding, swelling, bruising, and post-operative discomfort, typically managed with pain relief medication.
There’s a small risk of infection, or of the implant failing to fuse properly with the jawbone (osseointegration failure), which can sometimes require the implant to be removed and re-placed at a later date.
For implants near the sinus (upper jaw) or major nerves (lower jaw), there’s a small risk of sinus complications or temporary/rare permanent numbness in the lip, chin, or tongue. Your CT scan is used to plan around these structures and minimise this risk.
Adequate bone density and volume is needed to support an implant — if you don’t have enough, a Bone Graft may be recommended first, which adds time and cost to your treatment.
Certain factors can affect implant success, including smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, and a history of gum disease — these will be discussed with you during your assessment.
Recovery and healing time varies between patients, and the full process (from placement to final crown or prosthesis) can take several months.
Dental implants require ongoing maintenance, including regular hygiene visits and check-ups, to reduce the risk of complications such as peri-implantitis (gum disease around an implant).
